Her little sis! Bride Ol CHarleS lOSt had been a patient for two days. A retired farmer, he was bom near Ava on Jan. 3, 1887, the son of John and Margaret Cornelius Gideon.

He was married at Ava on March 23, 1911, to Lillie Vinson. Survivors include his wife; five children, Harold Gideon of Willard, I Gideon of Aurora, Mrs. Leta Baker of Scottsdale, Mrs. June Detherage of East Moline, 111., Mrs. Doris Bergkamp of Denver, 16 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

One son, three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. ter, bom at 5:10, weighed 51 pounds and 2 ounces and she has been named Tami Lynn. The babies have one brother, I Randy, who is five years old. Grandparents are Mrs. Louis Brown, of Ava, and Mr.

and Mrs. Gene Gott of Mansfield. Mrs. Brown left the hospital Monday to continue convalescence' at her home but the babies are to. remain in the hospital throughout this week.

Leon Osburn Completes Two Weeks Training GREAT LAKES, 111., (FHTNC) Leon D. Osburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Osburn of Smal-lett, completed two weeks of reserve recruit training, Dec. 31, as a member of the award-winning School of the Ozarks" reserve company at the Naval training center, Great Lakes, 111.

The company won all the top honors in competition with 30 other units, including two Star Flags (for barracks and personnel inspections), the Drill Flag, the "I Flag (for the highest overall test scores) and a clean sweep of the battalion, regimental and brigade Efficiency Flags, awarded for overall excellence in competition. The reservists have returned to Naval Reserve Electronics Division 9-33 at the School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, for further service and training. Osburn, a graduate of Ava High School in Ava, is attending the School of the Ozarks Junior College. Methodists in Special Morning Worship Service Victory Over Temptation" will be the theme Sunday morning at the Methodist Church at the morning worship service as three witnessing laymen will speak. Ekstron is the former Agnes Fitzgerald. The couple has another daughter, 17 months old. They are the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. J.

R. Fitzgerald of Dogwood. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Napier of Marshfield announce the birth of a son, Arlin Lee, on Dec.

30. The baby weighed 9 pounds, 9 ounces. Mrs. Napier is the former Wanda Kay Fitzgerald. The new arrival is the granddaughter of Mr.

and Mrs. J. R. Fitzgerald of Dogwood. Mr.

and Mrs. Jim Evans of West Minister, announce the birth of an 8-pound, 6-ounce son, on Jan. 7. They have chosen the name, Roger Burdett. The couple have a daughter, Cindy, 44 years old.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Evans of McClurg and Mrs. Juanita Wildman of West Minister, Calif. Mr.

and Mrs. Louis Brown, of 1851 South Weaver, Springfield announce the birth of twin daughters Friday morning, Jan. 5, in St. John's Hospital. One little Miss, who was bom Pvt, Kathryn Wheeler, daughter, of Mr.

and Mrs. Melvin Wheeler of Route 1, Ava, was married to Charles Yost, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Yost, of Spring- field, at a ceremony performed Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, at the! home of the bride's parents.

The Rev. Max Morris, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ava, presided. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Lee Iluff-i man, and about 20 relatives and close friends attended the wed-1 ding.

Following the expiration of her leave, the new Mrs. Yost reported for duty Jan. 10 at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va. A 1961 graduate of Ava High School, she enlisted for a three-year term in the Marine Corps on July 11, 1961. Mr.

Yost is operating a farm in the Brushy knob community. Last Rites Sunday For Henry M. Gideon Funeral services for Henry Miller Gideon, 75, of Route 2, Ava, were conducted Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. J.

W. Davis of Ava officiating. Burial was in the Ava cemetery. Mr. Gideon died at 9:15 a m.

Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield where he Miss Zola Beaven Is December Bride Miss Zola Beaven, daugnter of Herman Beaven of Norwood, became the bride of Charles L. Pike in a 7 oclock candlelight ceremony solemnized Friday evening, Dec. 1, in the chapel of the Memorial Christian Church of Rock Island, 111.

The Rev. Kenneth M. Hoal performed the double ring ceremony. The bride chose for her wedding a white brocade sheath with a matching jacket designed with three-quarter length sleeves and a white fur collar. Her shoes were white satin trimmed with rhinestone clips and she carried a white satin purse with matching rhinestone across the top.

The bride wore a pillbox hat of white sajn with a tiny veil and her sht wrist length gloves were fastened at the back with a small pearl. Her bridal corsage was fashioned of white rosebuds. Miss Nola Beaven, twin sister of the bride, attended as maid of honor. Jack Pike, brother of the groom, served as best man. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the home of Mrs.

Ruby Shinneman. Wedding cake and coffee were served to the following group who were guests at the wedding: Mrs. Jack Pike, Mrs. L. J.

Pike, Neal Haynes, Margaret Brockmoeller, Sonya Bonney, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jackson, Mrs. Ruby Shinneman, Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Wells, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Norgard and Mrs. Mary Waeysert. The couple is now at home at 402 West 7th Street, Davenport, Iowa.

t. The new Mrs. Pike is a graduate of Ava High School, class of 60. i Mrs, Jennings Elected 'President of Club I The Know Your Neighbors Club held an all day meeting Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the country home of Mrs.

Versal Cox, west of Ava, with ten members and one guest, Barbara Young, attending. The women quilted during the morning and a covered dish dinner was served at 12 o'clock. A business meeting was held during the afternoon and the women drew names to designate hostesses for each monthly meeting. Mrs. Irma Jennings was elected president of the club for the new year and Mrs.

Bea Lovelady was named secretary. Also during the session Barbara Young was welcomed into the club as a new member. Mrs. Edith Kastning will hostess the next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Retarded Children Meeting in Cabool A meeting of parent1 and interested friends of retarded children, both lay and professional, is to be held at the school cafeteria in Cabool Monday, Jan. 15, darting at 8 p.m. Persons from Douglas, Wright and Texas counties are urged to attend. Training Center No. 30 for retarded children is operated in Cabool under the direction of the State Department of Education, and two children from Douglas county are attending.

Missouri Association for Retarded Children, is concerned about retarded children of all degrees educable, trainable and totally dependent, and of all ages. Mrs. J. F. Holestine and Mrs.

Vandiver Upchurch left last Thursday for Sarasota, where Mrs. Holestine plans to spend the winter months. Mrs. Upchurch, who drove Mrs. Ilolestines car on the trip, will return to Ava by bus.

Perry Gilbert was called from Ava Friday night to Reuter, a rural community on Highway 160 near Forsyth, to be with his father, Henry Gilbert, who was very ill. The elder Mr. Gilbert, who makes his home with a daughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Watts and children, had become very ill after suffering a light paralytic stroke which was followed by an attack of pneumonia.

The patients condition was some better when the Avan returned home Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Aid of Houston, Texas were called to Seymour last week to attend funeral services for Mrs.

Aids grandfather, Milton J. Ross. They were accompanied on the trip by Kenneth Meadows, also of Houston. While here Mr. and Mrs.

Aid and Mr. Meadows visited with Mrs. Aids sister, Mrs. Bill Bristol and family and with her mother, Mrs. Sylvia Bellinger of Ava, Route 3, and with Mr.

Aids brother, Frank Aid and family, and with his mother, Mrs. Katie Aid, Ava, Route 3. Mrs. Louis Brown, of Ava went to Springfield Tuesday afternoon to spend sometime in the home of her son and his family, Mr. and Mrs.

Louis Brown, their son, Randy, and twin daughters, Toni Jean and Tami Lynn. The twin babies, who were bom Friday, Jan. 5, are still hospitalized at St. Johns but Mrs. Brown will help with the care of the wee ones when they are returned to the family home.

Mrs. Brown was accompanied to the city by her grandson, Terry Ewing, who joined his mother, Mrs. Juanita Ewing, and his brother, Kenny Ewing, who recently established residence in Springfield. Mrs. Reba King of Klickitat, spent her Christmas vacation in California visiting her brother, Cecil Burke and Mrs.

Burke and family, and helped her brother celebrate his birthday on Christmas Day. She also visited her nephew, Harold Burke and Mrs. Burke and sons; visited her cousin, Mf. Ernest pf Lynnwood, another cousin, Mrs. Orvil Meredith and Mr.

Meredith of Bakersfield, and friends in Long Beach and Santa Ana. Her niece, Mrs. Paul Otto and Mr. Otto were also visitor? in her parents home for Christmas. Mrs.

Flora Orr, mother of Mrs. Burke, ate dinner in her daughters home. Mr. and George Pledger returned to their honje Thursday evening after visiting two weeks with relatives in Iowa. Christmas week they were with their daughter, Mrs.

Edward Laushe and Mr. Laushe of Shenandoah. Other guests in the home for.Ouistmas weekend were and Mrs. J. B.

Custer and sons, Gregg and David, of Montgomery. and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pledger of Council Muffs, Iowa. The Pledgers and Laushes drove to Council Bluffs and spent New.

Years weekend in the Fred Pledger home where the Pledgers retrained until Thursday. Zestee 18-0z. Preserves Red Plum, Peach or Apricot Mrs. Ewing Begins Work in Springfield Mrs. Juanita Ewing left Ava Wednesday, Jan.

3, to accept a position as payroll clerk with Ozark Manufacturing and Supply Company, 1325 East Trafficway in Springfield. Mrs. Ewing moved into an apartment at 836 E. Elm, following her arrival in Springfield. Her older son, Kenny, who is a freshman at Southwest Missouri State College, joined her there during the weekend and her younger son, Terry, who had remained in Ava, joined the two at their new home on Tuesday this week.

Terry will be in school at Eastwood Junior High School. Mrs. Ewing began her new work Monday morning. Before leaving Ava she tendered her resignation as city collector, a position she had held since April last year. Watch and Birthday Party at Uhlmanns A large group of relatives and friends gathered New Years Eve in the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Albert Uhlmann. occasion was a watch party and a birthday observance for Mr. Uhlmann. About 11 p.m.

refreshments were served. A beautifully decorated birthday presented by a daughter, Mrs. Charles Taylor, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dave Uhlmann, was an attraction of the refreshment table, served with ice cream, strawberries and coffee. Enjoying the evening were Mr.

and Mrs. Otis Ellison of Cabool, Mr. and Mrs. U. S.

Chasteen of Versailles, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Uhlmann of Ava, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Uhlmann and daughters, Patsy and Linda, of West Plains, Jerry Wayne Nall of Ava, Mr.

and Mrs. Andrew Moritz, Mr. and Mrs. George Moritz, Mr. and Mrs.

Doin Uhlmann and children, Steve, Lee, Lynn and Teresa, Mrs. Marjorie Taylor and children, Nancy and Ronnie, of Peoria, 111., and the host and hostess. Ambulances Take Two Patients to Hospitals Clinkingbeard ambulances moved two patients to area hospitals Iflst week. Mrs. K.

M. Keith of Route 1, was moved from her country home on Wednesday, Jan. 3, to Ellis Fischel Hospital in Columbia to report for a routine checkup. She was returned home on Thursday and although she is still ill her condition is now considered as improved. Thursday, Jan.

4, Clinking-beards transferred Ben Moffis of Trail from the Burge-Protestant Hospital in Springfield to the U. S. Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff where he is continuing treat- ment. Mr. Moffis was injured in an automobile accident in early December and was moved toi Burge-Protestant for treatment.

Carl Henley in St. Johns Hospital Mrs. Carl Henley of Ava entered St. Johns Hospital in Spring-field Tuesday, last week, to undergo treatment for a heart condition. Attending physicians have diagnosed Mrs.

Henleys illness as due to congestive heart failure and have been able to administer treatment to improve her condition.
