100,000 08 3902-2 10'- FEBRUARY 20, 1992 DOUGLAS COUNTY HERALD, AVA, MISSOURI 65608 C-ONE Ava Art Guild News The Ava Art Guild February meeting was held for the first time in their new building, the Ava Art Gallery, thanks to the Cash Gas Co. who worked hard to get the Guild a furnace and was still installing it up to last hours on the evening of the meeting. Thanks to them the meeting was nice and warm. Future meetings will held in The Guild Building. A topic discussed during the business part of the meeting was the newsletter.

The Ava Art Guild newsletter is being prepared to include a schedule of the whole year, a list of the monthly demonstrations, workshops, paint-outs, shows, fund-raisers, etc. When finished, this newsletter will be sent to all members. Anyone else who wishes a copy can call The Three Sisters Store and get on the mailing list. An added meeting each month to be held in the daytime for those who cannot come to the evening meetings, is in future plans. Watch the newspaper.

President Lee 1 Frye reminded members, that the Poke Salat Fine Art Show is right around the corner so we need to get paintings ready for that. Newest member, Melynda Campbell was present and guest Billie Leonard joined before the meeting closed. There are now 56 members in the Art Guild. Fifteen members were present for this first meeting of the new year. Lynn Hildreth finished a portrait she has started at a previous meeting and answered questions pertaining to the colored pencil work she was doing.

Everyone enjoyed refreshments. If you've never done a monochrome painting don't miss our March 5 meeting. This will teach you the importance of color value in any painting. Lee Frye will demonstrate and carry you thru to completion step by step. You will be doing an easy to follow landscape.

She will be doing her demo in acrylics, however you may use oil or acrylics. You need only to bring a canvas panel, Lee suggests a 9x12 or 11x14 size, 2 brushes and one tube each brown and white paint. If you don't have these supplies, they will be available a at the meeting. Never It's fun and anyone can do it with just a little instruction. Our meetings are free and open to anyone interested in fine art.

We are anxious to see all the fine entries in our May Fine Art Show just around the corner. We will give away a $50 painting. The winning ticket holder will be able to choose any painting of that value or less at the conclusion of the show. This is something new to our show. Also we will have lots of demonstration going on during the show.

All this will be discussed at the March meeting. Hope to see you AVA ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH Sunday School 10 a.m. Worship Service 11 a.m. Evening Worship 6 p.m. Women's Ministries (Wed.) 6 p.m.

On Friday, January 24 the team took part in the large tournament. This tournament involved 28 schools.

The varsity section of the tournament was held at Parkview. Amy Parmenter was entered there in extemporaneous speaking and received a "3" At Central Amanda Flinn competed in the novice section with her humorous interpretation. Fonda Feeback, Gayela Potter, Carolyn Moore and Robert Brown attended as student judges. The next weekend, Feb. 8, the team left earlier than usual to go to Alton.

Alton is a special tournament because it is a chance for junior high School speakers compete. This is important to the coaches since it gives them an opportunity to build the future of their teams. Angela Ussery performed her oratory and received a "2" ranking. She also competed in improv. duet acting with Kristy Gray as did Brenda Owens and Gina Potter.

Improv. duet acting is challenging in that it involves being given a topic and a limited amount of time to prepare a 5 minute skit. Gina Potter earned a "3" in the highly competitive storytelling category. Jonathan Dodge also did well with his reading of "The Highwayman" in the poetry competition. The high school team was somewhat diminished in number because it was an ACT testdate and many members were taking that important test for college-bound students.

However, the quality of the team was not diminished as two members broke to the final round: Robert Brown in Poetry and Cristy Moore in radio speaking. Others competing were Gayela Potter, Fonda Feeback, and Amanda Flinn. ARNO FREEWILL BAPTIST CHURCH Sunday School 10 a.m. Morning Worship 11 a.m. Sunday Evening 7 p.m.
