AUGUST 16, 2007 Deaths Iva Dellar Hillhouse McGinnis, 100 Iva Dellar (Hillhouse) McGinnis left this earth to join her Lord and all those who went on before her on Aug. 8, 2007. She was born on Dec. 22, 1906 to Samuel and Ida (Griffin) Hillhouse in Pontiac, Mo. She was joined in wedlock to Raymond F.

McGinnis on Feb. 23, 1925. Raymond was called to preach the Word in the General Baptist Church. They joined together to rear their children with love, caring and to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Iva continued spreading the word after Raymond passed away on Sept.

4, 1980. She always tried to help people to find Jesus until her last day on this earth. She was fortunate enough to have lived to celebrate her 100th birthday with her loving family, and is pictured above with her grandson, Randy McGinnis, on that joyous occasion. She received 300 plus cards and loved reading every one. Iva was one of 10 children.

She always laughed that her father told people he had a family of boys, eight of whom were girls. Albert, Willie, Myrtle, Hattie, Violet, Blanche, Effie, and Eva preceded her in death. She is survived her sister Delpha Harper, of Broken Arrow, Okla. Iva and Raymond were blessed with eight children and raised their grandson, Cleo McGinnis. Lester, Harold, Cleo and baby McGinnis preceded her in death.

She is survived by Marlin and Reba McGinnis, of Gainesville, Mary Sue Walker, Houston, Texas, Ralph and Janet McGinnis, Parkville, Dale and Pat McGinnis, Warsaw, and Doye and Connie McGinnis of Kansas City, Kan. She left 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 29 greatgreat-grandchildren. She brought joy to everyone who knew her. Her smile and devout faith lifted the spirits of everyone. Funeral Services were held Saturday, Aug.

11, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville, with Woodrow Coonce officiating. Burial followed at Pontiac Cemetery. L.A. Johnson, 96 L.A. Johnson, 96, formerly of Rome, died in his home in Hernando, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, in 1997. He is survived by one son and eight daughters. Two daughters, Judy Rhodes and Lucy Massey, graduated from Ava High School. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, including Jesse Woolman, of Ava; and 29 greatgrandchildren. Helen Mae Hodges, 91 Helen Mae Hodges, the daughter of George Switzer and Maud (Herrell) Switzer, was born Oct.

17, 1915, in Douglas County, and departed this life Aug. 12, 2007 at the age of 91. Helen was life-long resident of the Ava area. On Feb. 11, 1941 Helen and Harold Hodges were united in marriage in Yellville, Ark.

They were blessed with a daughter, Lena. Helen was employed with Rawlings Sporting Goods as a seamstress before her retirement. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Church. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Thelma Jarman and Clair Lakey, and her husband, Harold.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Lena F. Sexton and her husband, Don, Phillipsburg; two grandchildren, Tim Sexton and his wife, Keri, and Angie Bryant and her husband, Lucas; one stepgrand-daughter, Denise McCulloch; and five great grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the Mt.

Tabor Church with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

It was good to talk to Mose House Friday evening and I learned he and Nadiene harvested their sweet potatoes Thursday and had a good crop. On October 2, Nova Pleasant will celebrate her 96th birthday. This Thursday the 16th will be the Lilly Ridge Friendly Neighbors Club at Carla's and Lynn Bentele is hostess. Happy birthday to David and Davis on August 18 and to Marlyn Pitcock of Forsyth, on August 21st. Deer have about finished all of Mearl and Beulah Satterfield's garden, even the late garden they looked forward to.

Archie and Norine Loftis have had some good blackberries from their place to sell. A bumper crop for such a hot August. A scary story from a writer tells of a decapitated rattlesnake head striking and biting a man, landing him in a hospital, receiving 6 shots he needed! Just when we thought we had heard almost everything! This news report came from south of Yakima, Washington. Visiting her brother David Latham, and wife, over the weekend were Grace Latham Ewing, and son Rick, from Lee's Summit, MO. Her brother Jerry came to visit with them while they were here.

We all wish David Latham better health as he has been very ill, and needs our prayers. Sympathy to Marlyn McGinnis in the loss of his mother, Iva McGinnis, 100 years old, of Warsaw whose funeral service was held Saturday in Gainesville. The Warren and Dan Moody families appreciate good neighbor, Jack Jarvis, supplying them with good tomatoes the past weeks after their own vines were dried up. When I arrived home from town Saturday morning, there were 2 Harley-Davidsons sitting in my driveway. My visitors were Steve and June Ann Arnold, from Orange, California, who have just become owners of a beautiful log home in Mtn.

View, Mo, and Chet Taylor and Dana Davis, the Arnolds new friends. They were on their way to Rockbridge. I was offered a ride, but declined, until I get up more courage at another time. School buses will be rolling soon, and summer vacation is over. So, back to work! Dolly Richardson is in Baxter County Regional Hospital at this.

Joe and Ernestine Gaddy are now living on their farm home at Sand Ridge. They attended church at Lilly Ridge Sunday evening. They are welcomed home again is after living away many years. Ardell Boatman and Mary (Jones) Boatman, was born April 15, 1921 in Calico Rock, Ark. She departed this life Aug. 14, 2007 at the age of 86. Thelma was a life long resident of the area. Thelma and Clarence Warford were united in marriage Dec.

11, 1937 in Ava. They were blessed with eight children. Clarence preceded Thelma in death in October 1990. She was an avid gardener and cook and loved the outdoors. adored her children: and grandchildren and was a good Christian.

Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents; four children, Fay Warford, Marjorie Amos, Shirley Ann Warford and Larry Warford; four brothers, Bill, Thurman, Joe and Jack Boatman; three sisters, Rener Sexton, Elmeth Offord and Nancy Woods; two grandchildren, Tozy Munoz and Wade Davis; and one greatgrandchild, Chad Davis. Thelma is survived by four children, Linda Kaberline, Nancy Deever, Billy Ray Warford all of Ava, and Sherman Warford, Lansing, 29 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren, three greatgreat-grandchildren, and one sister, Lorine Van Winkle, Batesville, and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev.

This week half of the month will be behind us. Hootin n' Hollarin is only a little over a month away on September 20, 21, and 22. Lilly Ridge fall revival is September 23-27 with Rev. John Williams of Norwood. A three day trip to Panama City, Florida was enjoyed by Helen Conardy, Lynn Hicks and grandson, Devin. In 24 hours, one way, they traveled through AR, TN, MS, AL and Florida. 1 They had dinner on a pirate ship, at Shell Island, among other sights.

Meeting up with Ava Victory Academy 4H Club vacationers was a surprise as Devin was one of their members but didn't know their trip was planned. Edith McKinnon attended a 3 day Summit at First Baptist Church in Mtn. Home. Topics were "Lead Where You Are" and "Keep A. Fence Of Optimism Inspiring People," also "Assess how you can most effectively serve others." An invitation to everyone is extended to attend Sunday School at Lilly Ridge.

There's a class for everyone, and the time is 9:45 a.m. A thought to ponder "It's easier to go down a hill than up, but the view is much better at the top." Smallett Nora Edwards Walnut Grove Church enjoyed good services on Sunday. Margaret Rosseau led a chorus song "Smile a While" before the congregation singing. Margaret also sang "I've Got More to Go to Heaven For" as the morning special. Bro.

Robert Roberts brought the message "Witnessing by the Power of the Spirit" from Acts 1: 1-8. Christ met people where they were not just in church. We must be willing to show and share our faith anywhere. We need the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish what God wants us to do. Sunday evening Bro.

Robert brought the message "Overcoming the Fear of Witnessing" from John 7: 10-13. It is easier to witness to strangers than it is to witness to family and friends. The Holy Spirit can take the fear away and make us bold. Have you witnessed to anyone this week? Vacation Bible School will be held August 6 through Aug. 10 each evening, 6:00 p.m.

The week of July 24th, Joe and Wilma Hamby along with five other couples loaded their Missouri Foxtrotters for a trip to Westcliffe, Colorado for a week to ride in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Sadie Allen spent 2 weeks visiting her grandparents Albert and Joyce Erickson.

She also visited her other grandparents, Lee and Faye Allen. Sherry Allen joined Sadie and spent the last week in the Erickson home. Rob and Carly Allen came later and they all attended the Swofford reunion in Branson on Sat. The Allens returned to their home in Columbia on Sun. Kim Huff spent Sunday afternoon with the Ericksons.
